📱 Installation & Usage Guide
Install Mauri Compass as a mobile app and learn how to access your PDF reports

⚠️ Important: Must use Safari browser
Chrome, Firefox, and other browsers on iOS cannot install PWAs. Only Safari works.
Open in Safari
Navigate to your deployed Mauri Compass website in Safari browser.
Tap the Share Button
Tap the Share button (square with arrow pointing up) at the bottom of Safari
Location: Bottom center of Safari on iPhone, top right on iPad
Add to Home Screen
Scroll down in the share menu and tap "Add to Home Screen"
You may need to scroll down past other sharing options to find it
Confirm Installation
Edit the name if desired (default: "Mauri Compass"), then tap "Add" in the top right
Launch the App
Find the Mauri Compass icon on your home screen and tap to open. It launches in full-screen mode without Safari UI.
🤖 Android Installation
✅ Works with Chrome, Edge, Samsung Internet
Android has better PWA support - you'll see an automatic install prompt!
Open in Chrome
Navigate to your deployed Mauri Compass website in Chrome (or Edge/Samsung Internet)
Install Automatically or Manually
Option A: Automatic Prompt
Chrome shows "Add Mauri Compass to Home screen" banner at bottom. Tap "Add" or "Install"
Option B: Manual Install
Tap the three-dot menu (⋮) → Select "Add to Home screen" or "Install app"
Launch the App
Find the Mauri Compass icon in your app drawer. Opens in full-screen standalone mode.
📄 Finding Your PDF Reports
After generating a PDF report from any assessment module, here's how to find and access it:
🍎 iOS (iPhone/iPad)
When you tap "Download PDF":
- PDF opens in a preview window
- Tap the Share button (square with arrow) at top right
- Choose where to save:
- "Save to Files" → Choose folder (Downloads, iCloud Drive, etc.)
- "Save to Photos" → Saves as image in Photos app
- "Mail" → Attach to email immediately
- "AirDrop" → Send to nearby device
Finding saved PDFs later:
- Open Files app → Downloads folder
- Or check iCloud Drive if you saved there
- Search by filename (e.g., "MCI_Assessment_Hutt_River")
🤖 Android
When you tap "Download PDF":
- PDF automatically downloads to Downloads folder
- Notification appears: "Download complete"
- Tap notification to open PDF immediately
Finding saved PDFs later:
- Open Files app or My Files
- Navigate to Downloads folder
- Or use Google Drive if you moved it there
- Sort by "Date modified" to find recent reports
💡 Pro Tip:
Set Chrome to ask where to save files: Settings → Downloads → Toggle "Ask where to save files"
Alternative: Email PDFs Directly
Every assessment module has an "Email Results" button. This opens your email app with the PDF attached, making it easy to send reports to colleagues or save to email for backup.
✅ Verify Installation Success
Icon appears on home screen with Mauri Compass logo
Opens in full-screen (no browser address bar visible)
Works offline (try airplane mode after first load)
Shows "v2.8.2" in footer
All 11 assessment modules accessible
Data persists between sessions
🔧 Troubleshooting
iOS: "Add to Home Screen" option missing
- Ensure you're using Safari (not Chrome/Firefox)
- Update iOS to latest version (PWA support requires iOS 11.3+)
- Try closing and reopening Safari
Android: No install prompt appears
- Tap three-dot menu → "Add to Home screen" manually
- Ensure Chrome is updated to latest version
- Clear browser cache and reload site
App won't work offline
- Open app while online first (downloads all 83MB of assets)
- Wait 10-15 seconds on first load for all images to cache
- Check that service worker registered in browser console
Can't find downloaded PDF
- iOS: Check Files app → Downloads or iCloud Drive
- Android: Check Files/My Files app → Downloads folder
- Search by filename or sort by date modified
- Alternative: Use "Email Results" button instead
